Uma, being unavailable even today, (must be busy with marital relationships and commitments !) , could not be discussed with. So, I thought I'll make my comments on last day's comments from the "Anonymous madam'.
Thank you for appreciating the revelation on 'knots'. The pictures were useful. I am happy about my contribution. Lat me make simple sentences .....
Do not use pins at all. It's not safe and secure.
Wearing thaar while sleeping ... well... I think you should wear it a bit loose. Don't be too tight while on the bed, for physical reasons.
While at work, it's good to have it tight. The knot would prevent any loosening or coming off. I know ladies wearing this while doing Yoga, which involves a lot of stretching out.
Venturing to office ... Yes it's the best undergarment ! Many ladies hesitate to wear it, on fear of loosening or the vaal coming off. The two knots guards them all.
As you rightly said, the pin could spoil the mundu. It's a bit inconvienient to open. The knot, though difficult to remove in normal standing posture, is easy to open with your legs a bit spread and a bit kneeling.
"The naughtiest problem" is solved thro' a simple knot ? ! Yes Madam, ther's a simple solution to every tough problem. It's upto you, to think... ask others.. share the knowledge .. and that's it.
In this context, I remember how my Grand Mother was doing with knots (4 , if remember right !) on her bodice for comfort and to trim the shape of her boobs. None of the modern day bra could do that !!
" I wonder how many women are aware of this! " - Yeah...but many women knew it.. and they were doing this way. At the same time, I've seen many women taking the trouble of tightening up their thaar frequently ... seeking corners of the house or elsewhere they go.
"How many are wearing this wonderful apparel these days! " ... not many. It's still there in central and north Kerala, atleast in some families. But the practice is dying down !
"Onnara-wearers to be slowly extinct like the lion-tailed monkeys of silent valley." ... that's an interesting comment.
Nair community is losing all their wealth... including the valuable traditions. I know Nair girls who are totally ignorant about Onnara. No one taught them and they all went behind the western culture (as we all do in most of our matters).
"Tomorrow's fashion is yesterday's Tradition"... Yes this idea would work out. But ... I have my doubts ! However, I wish Onnara become fashionable tomorrow, also taking into account its invaluable benefits.

But I don't find much material about Thaar, when tried through Google searches ! Please send me those links, if you can. I'll retry.

Knot of the Anonymous
Uma would certainly love to read the comment from 'Anonymous lady'. I am referring the comment on by the 'Anonymous' on "Knot technique". I shall read it out the next day, to Uma, when she calls me.
I am reproducing the comment, for my readers to quickly get what she says.

Though, I had some initial confusion on where to put the knots, the photos of this page on Knots made everything clear and I decided to give it a try. Normally, whenever I use Onnara under my nighty during sleep in the night, it used to come off easily at the slightest movement in the bed (I avoid putting pin at home). But yesterday, the result was fantastic and as I woke up in the morning, I was really astonished to find my onnara perfectly intact in its place and as tight as I worn in the night. Even when I did some stretching exercises, the tail never came out. That gave me enough confidence to venture out to office without the habitual safety pin. It was really a wonderful feeling to have the onnara holding together tightly through out the day without any need of slightest adjustment. Also, it has other advantages compared to pin technique. Pin serves as a nuisance while going to the toilet as it is difficult sometimes to remove it. Another problem is, the pin holes spoils the cloth and will get torn easily. Isn't it wonderful that the most naughtiest problem of ONNara surrounding its Tail is solved thro' a simple knot? So as far as I am concerned, it is bye-bye to pins. I wonder how many women are aware of this! For that matter, how many are wearing this wonderful apparel these days! After the 70's, pantice culture has so much dominated among all class of women forcing the Onnara-wearers to be slowly extinct like the lion-tailed monkeys of silent valley. I often ask some of my Nair friends about (Onnara was supposed to be a symbol and hallmark of this community) how they lost the habit of wearing this wonderful inner-wear;most of them have not worn this in their life. It seems, their mothers never taught them and wanted them to be fashionable and in the process their mothers themsleves shifted to pantice culture. But my feeling is, today's youngsters are not the fixed type and are very adaptable. If they are convinced that something is good for them, they will have no problem in changing it. Of course, they want to be fashionable and they know that "Tomorrows's fashion is yesterday's Tradition". That is how the "Kadukkans" and "Kudumas" of yester-years became the in-thing among even our boys. So who knows our Onnaras won't be fashionable tomorrow, also taking into account its invaluable benefits. The internet culture will also definitely help in propagating the right messsage. In fact, I never thought there will be so much of info. on items like ONNARA/Thaar on the web pages; with the Search Assist ON. the moment I type ONNAR in the Yahoo search, it reveals so much topic in this subject including "how to wear onnaramundu". This was a surprise to me and that is how I came to your web pages. Paleri manka
Uma loves to see old Malayalam classic movies. When she was with me, I could prompt her to see them on our CD player. I could manage to get the movie CDs from the local Video library. Name it and Pai would bring them from the library.
Two of the movies I have seen (in fact many times) are "Guruvayyor Kesavan" and "Rathilayam". The great actress 'Jayabharathi' is my attractive element in these.
last day, when I have been surfing through Malayalam movie pictures on the net, I came across with "Paleri maanikyam". A couple of pictures attracted me... and really kicked me.
Apple juice
Uma likes fruit juices, particularly Apple juice. That's how Apple juice and Apple squash have become permanent items on my dining table. Though I am not very particular, Uma used to Bive me a glass of juice in the afternoons or evenings of summer days. She used to enjoy it frequently, summer or winter.
Yesterday, I wanted my stock of liquid gold replenished. As usual, Pai went out to buy that from BEVCO. Unfortunately, the stuff was not available. No Green label, no Bagpiper, no 8PM, and nothing of that variety. Pai took his own decision to buy a different one ( he knows well that I don't like a call on such things). That's how the "Apple Giz" reached me.
Colourless ... it's Vodka.... and ... it's nice ... and soft. But all the more important point is that it smells apple !
The apple flavour kicked me to spent my evening yesterday with Uma. Yeah... she was with me all along...

Hearty relations never die
Uma... she still loves me. That's for sure !
You are now aware that she got married. On last thursday. Though she has been trying to convince me of a continued thread, I didn't have any hope. Now, I am fully confident.
That's because, Uma kept her words. She called me yesterday ! From her own mobile. But I cautioned her. She said ... " Maamma... don't get scared ... I know how to handle the delicate threads... " . I was pleasantly shocked.
She took the lead to talk to me. That too from her hus's place. She says, it's all is manageable.
She, as expected (by her, not me), is now the leader of her in-laws home. She is to take care of the elderly parents of her husband. And they are so nice people... she says. Her hus too is ... "valare paavam aanu.. ". I wonder how she could make such quick assessments ! I pray, let her be right !!
Uma couple will be getting back her home today. May be after a day or two, she'll start attending to her work (her own father's provision shop ). And it looks, she'll be commuting from her hus's place. Afterall, its just 20 minutes' bus journey.
She promised me to chat in detail, today evening. I am eagerly waiting for that call.

Two drops of my heart
Uma is getting wedded today, At 12.15 noon.
I am not attending the function. Yesterday I talked to Vasu, and bluffed him about my (great !) inconvenience. In fact, he told me that he knew it earlier (about my absence). Padma must have hinted on my emotions. But Vasu was cool.
And I talked to Uma in the night yesterday. I wished her "all the best ". On my request, she agreed to remove all my contact details from her mobile phone. Though she said that's not any concern, I said that could be one for you. She cleared all call history too. But she would certainly call me. She can dial me anytime she wishes. So, I am left with a hope.... she may call me anytime... anyday... !
But today ... I've decided to spend the whole day with the warmth of her virtual presence here... and ofcourse embracing the gift she gave me. It gives me her 'choodum choorum'. Certainly, a few drops of the liquid gold would act as a catalyst for my thoughts and emotions to get volatile.
Pai, as usual, came in the morning, to take me to the office. I told him I am not well, and I am not going to office today. He was watching me ... rather staring at me. He is aware of the importance of this day.
"Sir... don't feel bad... don't cry .. you are childish.. " he said. I was surprised ! Am I crying ? Do I look like that ?
"But I am not crying ... why do you make such comments..? " I asked him.
"Sir.. your eyes are wet and watery ... I can see two drops shining in your eyes ... may be you are not crying..." he said in a very low tone.
"Why should I ..? but I feel feverish ... that's why.." I said.
Pai returned with specific reminder to call him if I need any assistance.
"Yes... " I told him. But I won't need anyone today ... I'll try to make myself live with the 'choodum choorum' of her.
I think the nature also is quite sad. That's why it's so gloomy and dull today. The nature is crying too. It rains intermittently here. I can also hear the feeble hiccups , the thunder. The nature has its emotions ... of grief and loss of hope. That's mine too.
The sun didn't dare to show himself today. He's hiding. That's why my mind is too dark today.
