Uma is a free bird today. She enjoys the freedom. She knows well that her person responsible for her now, is very cool. And, cool in the sense that he is with her. Uma knows well to keep that so.
She used to tell me that March 3, 2007, the day she left her place and came down to me, is the turning point in her life. A few days back, while on our regular chat, she told me “I am not worried about my marriage. I am decided on that. But I wish I get a good employment.”. With a long pause, she then looked at me and said “ Mamma, I am sure you’ll love to have me with you here. Am I right ?”.
I understand her question well. “Yes, Uma. Unless Vasu decides otherwise”.
“No, that he can’t. I am not to go back to them” Uma was a bit louder then. “ Mamma, please don’t send me !”. She kept on telling me more and more on why she won’t go back at all. I’ve been listening; but I kept quiet. I know this could drag on to “raagavistaaram” (recital) about her father’s achi (Uma’s step-mother ). And, always it ends up there.
Uma and her Kunjamma are enemies. They have nothing good about the other. Everytime, on this topic, Uma gets into abusing her step-mother, and she uses dirty words. The first word that comes in her recital is “K*******i ” (means bitch). Oh…. Many a time I had to stop her. One day, she, lowering her voice, told me : “.. she never wears anything under. Only an ottamundu …. Nothing inside ...… I hate such ladies.”. Then our chat went on in that line….
After sometime, I sparked the issue again. I know I could enjoy her talk. I asked “ Uma, your Kunjamma doesn’t wear anything under.. But how does she respond to you on that ?” She smiled and said: “ ....Nee ... .... nadannodi ... ( You have yours closed and packed for ever..) Oruthanum ... ..... varilladi ninakku .. (No one will come with his stuff to your ). What dirty language ...!
